Developing the annual health check in 2008/2009: Have your say
This consultation closed on Wednesday 12 March 2008.
The annual health check is designed to assess whether NHS organisations are meeting the standards of care that patients and the public expect, such as providing safe and high-quality clinical care. It also aims to encourage improvement by highlighting excellence and tracking progress over time.
2008/2009 will be the annual health check’s fourth year. Our proposals aim to maintain continuity with previous years.
We will focus on a number of key areas, such as:
- safety, including cleanliness and levels of healthcare-acquired infections
- quality of clinical care
- commissioning (purchasing) of healthcare services on behalf of local communities.
We need to reflect the changes that are taking place in the way services are commissioned and delivered, and in how these services will be regulated.
In previous years, feedback from NHS staff and members of the public has been extremely valuable in helping us to shape the design of our system of assessment. We welcome your feedback on our proposals.
