Consultation on regulatory fees for the independent healthcare sector

Consultation closed on February 20th 2007.

The Healthcare Commission is responsible for setting the fees that are charged for the regulation of establishments in the independent healthcare sector.

When we finalised the fees for 2006/2007, we advised that we intended to proceed with plans for daily charges from April 2007, that registration fees would be increased towards full cost recovery and that annual fees were mostly now set at full cost and should not increase above inflation.

In 2007, our consultation focused on the detail of these changes. It also introduced three new proposals. They are to reduce the fees charged for registering additional premises, implementing a sliding scale for charges per overnight bed, and finding the balance between full cost recovery and affordability for voluntary organisations.

Before setting the fees, we were obliged to consult with interested parties and to obtain the consent of the Secretary of State for Health on our proposals.
