Our future role
From 1 April 2009, a new organisation called the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will be responsible for regulating healthcare and social care in England.
The CQC will take over the roles of the three organisations that are now responsible for this regulatory work:
- The Healthcare Commission
- The Commission for Social Care Inspection
- The Mental Health Act Commission
The Department of Health made this announcement following a review aimed at establishing a new regulatory framework for health, mental health and social care services. It is working with all three organisations to decide how the new regulatory body will work and what its key aims will be.
