Criteria for investigating or intervening
When we receive a referral about a potential problem, we carry out an 'initial consideration' to review the concerns raised and determine whether they fall within our criteria for investigation.
These initial considerations can lead to:
- Closure, with no further action required by the trust
- An intervention
- An investigation
Selection criteria
At any time during the initial consideration process, we may decide that an intervention is needed. We have developed a set of guidelines, the Healthcare Commission criteria for intervention, to make this decision.
At any time during the initial consideration process, or during the course of an intervention, we may decide that a full investigation is needed. We use the Healthcare Commission criteria for investigation to make this decision.
