Safe delivery: reducing risk in maternity services
Recent investigations show that there is still much to be done to improve safety for women using maternity services in England. The Healthcare Commission and the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) are working together to review the current status of maternity provision and provide tools and data to support service development and minimise risks and adverse events.
As part of this work the Commission and NPSA jointly hosted a free conference on 26 June 2007 in central London to look at how to reduce risk in maternity services. The Conference brought together policy makers, leading representatives from key organisations and health professionals from the field of maternity care. The focus of the day was the challenge of how to ensure safe, confident and effective maternity care in a time of immense change and financial pressure on maternity units and included practical examples of new ways of improving the quality of maternity care.
Presentation slides and video clips of the presentations from the conference are available below. We are providing the video clips for both broadband and dial-up users, the video clips for dial-up users will be available shortly.
Please note: Some of the video clips may contain flashing lights. Flashing lights have been known to cause epileptic fits in susceptible people.
Some of these presentations are quite long, consequently the file sizes for these video clips are large, and may take some time to start, particularly for dial-up users.
If you are unable to view a video clip and would like to obtain a DVD containing all the video clips , and/or a transcript of any of the video clips , please contact our helpline on 0845 601 3012.
