Learning from Bristol: are we?
On Wednesday July 19, Healthcare Commission Chairman, Sir Ian Kennedy, gave a lecture entitled Learning from Bristol: are we? Speaking in a personal capacity and not as Chairman of the Commission, Sir Ian reflected on the progress that had been made in implementing the recommendations of the inquiry into the management of care of children receiving complex cardiac surgical services at Bristol Royal Infirmary between 1984 and 1995. Sir Ian had chaired the inquiry, which published its findings in July 2001.
As well as his presentation, Sir Ian also published what he described as 'an impressionistic view' in the form of an essay.

Health studies programme
The Healthcare Commission is working with the National Audit Office, the Audit Commission and the Commission for Social Care Inspection to promote improvement in patient care and efficiency in the NHS and public health. We are working with increasing collaboration on our national level studies of health and social care and have jointly set out our combined programme of national studies for 2006/2007 and our approach for 2007/2008.
