Surveys of patients

Health services should be shaped by what matters most to patients and the public. We are building up a national picture of people’s experience that will allow us to compare:

  • performance of different organisations
  • changes over time
  • variations between different patient groups

Results of surveys of patients:

Emergency department care

Ambulance patients

Long term conditions – diabetes

Heart disease and stroke

Mental health

Primary care

Acute care

Young patients

Maternity services

Surveys of NHS staff

The survey of NHS staff in England provides information on the attitudes and experiences of staff in the NHS. Almost 156,000 employees (a response rate of 54%) responded to the fifth national survey in 2007.

The results can be used to improve working conditions and practices in healthcare services, leading to an improvement in the quality of care provided to patients.

Results of surveys of NHS staff:

2007 national survey of NHS staff

2006 national survey of NHS staff

2005 national survey of NHS staff

2004 national survey of NHS staff

2003 national survey of NHS staff
