Primary care trusts self assessment tool
The Healthcare Commission’s controlled drugs team have developed a self-assessment tool for primary care trusts (PCTs) to check how they are doing in terms of controlled drugs (CD) governance and to identify areas which need improvement. This is not a data collection tool but a recommended resource to help PCTs assess whether they are meeting guidance and the legislative requirements around CDs.
The tool includes a series of detailed questions around CD governance, which will allow the PCT to assess if its CD governance arrangements are satisfactory.
We are currently developing versions of the tool for other types of organisations, such as NHS acute trusts and independent hospitals.
The tool is a spreadsheet which contains macros, so when you download it, please select “enable macros” to ensure the scoring is implemented:
