Surveys of heart disease and stroke patients

Survey of patients with coronary heart disease

The national service framework (NSF) for coronary heart disease survey of patients was carried out as part of a wider piece of work undertaken by the Healthcare Commission to look at how the national service framework for coronary heart disease was being implemented. The survey took place during January and February 2004.

The findings were published in June 2005.

National survey of stroke patients

In Autumn 2004 we asked 51 NHS acute hospital trusts in England to survey patients who have had a stroke, focusing on their experiences of being in hospital and the care they received following their discharge from hospital. The national survey of stroke patients was published in 2005.

Over 70% of these respondents then agreed to take part in a second survey about their longer-term care.  In the summer of 2005, we carried out another survey of these patients to find out about their care and support approximately one year after discharge. The results were published in 2006:
