Controlled drugs

In response to the fourth report from the Shipman Inquiry (July 2004), the Government has made the Healthcare Commission responsible for overseeing the regulation of the management of controlled drugs by healthcare providers in England.

This section of the site explains our new role, which started in autumn 2006 and in the light of new regulations that came into effect in England from January 1st 2007.  It also contains important information for those responsible for managing controlled drugs in healthcare organisations.
