Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000

The Department of Health transferred the responsibility for IR(ME)R to the Healthcare Commission on 1 November 2006. This resulted in the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) (Amendment) Regulations 2006, which came into force from this date. We are now responsible for enforcing the regulations, through a programme of assessment and inspection.

All notifications of incidents where patients have been exposed to ionising radiation to a degree ‘much greater than intended’ should be sent to us using the web-based notification form. Please use the link below.

The report includes an analysis of notifications of incidents for the period 1 November 2006 to 31 December 2007, where patients had received an exposure of ionising radiation to an extent ‘much greater than intended’.
